Sudden cardiac arrest can be deadly regardless of whether it occurs outside the hospital or within. Early recognition and treatment is key in patient survival. The inital steps of ACLS (chest compressions) should be implemented prior to the arrival of the code blue team. The chart below is a reminder of the steps we use to guide decisions while treating patients with cardiac arrest.
