Pathways

Pathways are treatment paradigms that create consistent, evidence-based care delivery for patients in the intensive care setting. In our ICU, we have two current pathways:

  • Elderly Patient w/ rib fractures

  • Time to tracheostomy in patients with severe traumatic brain injury

Elderly Patients with Rib Fractures Pathway

Patients over the age of sixty with rib fracture are a vulnerable group who often should be admitted to a high level of care for respiratory monitoring, pain management, pulmonary hygiene and supportive care.

This pathway is made up of three vital components:

     1) Functional Pain Assessment

     2) Multimodal Pain Management

     3) Mobilization Protocol
